About Toyo Tires

Toyo Tires is a Japanese tire manufacturer, which was launched in 1945. In 1966, the company expanded its operations and joined the U.S market.

It’s currently headquartered in Cypress, California while its distribution network is handled by its vast warehouse, based in Southern California.

It also has additional warehousing facilities in Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Toyo Tires is highly popular among adventure seekers and harsh weather drivers, thanks to its ever-reliable mud-terrain and all-terrain tires.

But apart from producing some of the best all-terrain tires on the market, Toyo Tires also manufactures other types of tires such as standard all-season tires and high-performance tires for trucks, SUVs and crossovers.

Most Popular Toyo Tires

Toyo produces tires for crossovers, trucks and SUVs. Its tires are renowned for outstanding performance in rugged terrains.

And besides its renowned all-terrain lineup, Toyo also produces several types of all-season and performance tires. Some of its most popular tires include:

Open Country A/T III

The Toyo Open Country A/T III is an all-terrain, all-season tire, designed for SUVs, CUVs and light trucks.

It’s engineered for drivers who are looking for a versatile tire, which can handle daily drives, combined with occasional off-roading adventures.

According to Toyo, this all-terrain tire has been equipped with some of the latest technologies, to ensure it can match up to the competition.

With that said, does this tire deliver according to expectations? Let’s take a closer look at how it performs in different conditions.

Wet and Slippery Conditions

The Toyo Open Country A/T III is engineered to get to your destination and back home safely and comfortably, even if the journey includes driving through rainy conditions.

Its hydroplaning resistance is superb, which is quite an impressive achievement, for a tire with such large tread blocks and voids.

It also delivers safe handling, precise steering response and outstanding traction in extremely wet and slippery conditions.

Apart from that, it provides adequate wet cornering grip while the braking distances remain impressively short.

Performance in Snowy Conditions

The Toyo Open Country A/T III comes with the three-peak snowflake mountain symbol (3PMSF), meaning it has been equipped to handle wintry conditions.

Furthermore, Toyo has significantly enhanced this tire’s snow performance, compared to the previous iteration.

Having driven with this tire during winter, I was impressed by its top-notch traction and the short braking distances.

It also handled the corners much better than the majority of the other all-terrain tires I have tested in its class.

But with that said, the Toyo Open Country A/T III cannot outperform a proper winter or snow tire.

And like we always insist, if you live in an area that experiences heavy snowing for several months, then you should simply buy a dedicated winter tire.

Off-Roading Performance

All-terrain tires should provide dependable and consistent off-roading performance. So, is the Toyo Open Country A/T III suitable for driving in such conditions and terrains?

Without a doubt, the Toyo Open Country A/T III will not disappoint you when it comes to off-roading adventures.

According to drivers who have used this tire, it delivers reliable traction and grip on hard-packed surfaces, including terrains with loose dirt and gravel.

It will provide you with an excellent grip for fast acceleration, decent cornering stability as well as solid braking.

It also responds to the driver’s commands precisely and quickly. And with its rugged tread pattern, you will also enjoy adequate traction in shallow mud. Also, it can handle some light rock crawling.

However, the Toyo Open Country A/T III is not built for extreme off-road conditions such as areas with thick, deep mud.

But for the occasional off-roading enthusiast, this tire will be more than adequate. It’s simply one of the best in this category.

Performance on Dry Roads

On dry tarmac, the Toyo Open Country A/T III is equally impressive. It performs almost like a touring all-season tire.

It delivers adequate cornering grip, outstanding highway stability, great steering response and powerful braking.

Sizes and Fitment

The Toyo Open Country A/T III comes in more than 100 sizes, ranging between 15 inches to 22 inches.

It’s available in LT metric, P metric, Euro metric, and Flotation sizes.

So, if you drive a truck, a crossover, or an SUV, there’s a high chance you will find a Toyo Open Country A/T III in a size that fits your vehicle.

Should You Buy the Toyo Open Country A/T III?

If you are looking for an all-terrain tire that can deliver a comfortable ride on paved roads, adequate traction on unpaved roads, as well as solid grip on snowy roads, then Toyo Open Country A/T III will be a good choice.

Open Country R/T

The Open Country R/T is an aggressive and rugged-looking all-terrain tire, designed for drivers of SUVs, jeeps, trucks and various types of 4x4s.

It’s more of a blend between a mud terrain tire and an all-terrain tire, built to deliver superior performances in various off-road conditions.

According to Toyo, this tire is also engineered to provide you with a comfortable and enjoyable on-road driving performance.

The question is, does the Toyo Open Country R/T manage to tick all these boxes? Let’s take a closer look.

On-Road Performance

The Toyo Open Country R/T comes with large tread blocks and wide voids. And with such a tread design, you may expect it to produce too much road noise.

But that’s quite the opposite. On city streets, this tire is surprisingly quiet. According to drivers who have used this tire, road noise is not an issue with this tire.

The performance is similar when you are cruising on the highway with a set of these tires.

They don’t produce too much noise even when you hit those highway speeds, which is a pleasant surprise for tires with such an aggressive tread design.

While it may produce some road noise, it’s much quieter compared to most of the others in their category.

Handling and Traction

Handling is equally great for the Toyo Open Country R/T. As much as it may produce a few vibrations, they will not affect your driving in any way.

Its traction and grip are also great, whether you are driving on dry roads or you encounter wet conditions.

Overall, the Toyo Open Country R/T provides decent handling and adequate traction regardless of whether you are driving on dry roads or the surface is extremely slippery.

Off-Road Performance

The true test of an all-terrain tire is how it performs in off-road conditions and terrains. So, is the Toyo Open Country R/T a reliable tire when you get off-road?

The Toyo Open Country R/T is, undoubtedly, one of the best performers when it comes to off-road conditions.

Whether you are driving on hard-packed surfaces, muddy roads, loose gravel, sandy banks or dirt, this tire doesn’t falter.

It grabs the surface and delivers top-notch grip, thus ensuring your vehicle doesn’t get stuck.

It also tackles uphill climbs excellently and confidently. However, it will be highly advisable to lower the air pressure to around 20 PSI, if you intend to use this tire for off-road driving.

Most of the drivers who have used this have noted that its off-roading performance is better than they had expected.

Sizes and Fitment

You may be probably asking yourself whether the Toyo Open Country R/T can fit your vehicle.

Well, it’s available in a wide array of sizes, running from 15 inches to 22 inches.

So, if you own a 4x4 and your vehicle’s wheel size is within this range, then there’s a high chance that this tire can fit.

Should You Buy the Toyo Open Country R/T?

Overall, the Toyo Open Country R/T is a dependable all-terrain performer and a comfortable on-road tire.

Its rugged tread pattern and its sturdy internal construction combine to give this tire the dependability needed for off-road driving situations.

And while it’s such a capable performer off the beaten path, it doesn’t sacrifice ride quality and refinement.

If you need a tire that can easily transition from a daily driver to an off-road tire for your weekend adventures, then the Toyo Open Country R/T will serve you well.

Toyo Proxes 4 Plus

The Toyo Proxes 4 Plus is a high-performance all-season tire, designed for drivers of performance sedans and sports coupes.

According to Toyo, this tire is built to enhance your vehicle’s cornering and handling, without compromising on ride quality and comfort.

With that being said, does the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus perform as advertised? Let’s take a closer look:

Performance on Dry Roads

The Toyo Proxes 4 Plus handles like a summer tire on dry roads. It supplies adequate acceleration and cornering grip.

It also delivers outstanding steering response, great vehicle stability as well as confident braking, even when bringing your vehicle to a stop at high speeds.

Wet Performance

The story is similar when it comes to wet surfaces. It provides adequate grip in rainy conditions and damp roads.

Also, you will enjoy great vehicle stability, precise and fast steering response as well as top-notch handling and control in wet conditions.

The four wide circumferential grooves on this tire and the high-density siping on the tread play a vital role in this tire’s wet performance.

For instance, the four wide circumferential grooves will evacuate water from the tire’s tread, thus reducing the risk of hydroplaning.

At the same time, the added sipes on its tread provide additional biting edges, needed for gripping the surface on wet roads.

Ride Quality

Most high-performance tires tend to prioritize traction and grip as opposed to road silence, comfort and refinement.

However, Toyo used a different approach when making this tire. Apart from outstanding all-season traction, this tire will also give you a comfortable ride.

Simply put, it combines the ride refinement of a touring tire with the superior traction of a summer tire.

Sizes and Fitment

Toyo produces the Proxes 4 Plus in a wide selection of sizes, ranging from 16 inches to 20 inches.

It’s compatible with a wide range of performance vehicles such as Audi A4, Infinity G37 Coupe, Dodge Charger and Challenger, Subaru Impreza, Mini Cooper and Honda Civic.
