About the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro

If you spend most of your weekends tackling rough, off-road terrains, then you will need to equip your vehicle with a tire that can handle such conditions.

And that tire is none other than the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro. According to Cooper, this tire is specifically engineered to tackle extreme and remote off-road terrains. Released to replace the original Cooper Discoverer STT, the STT Pro is the type of tire that will go where others will falter.

Whether you encounter rock, mud, or loose dirt, this all-season, off-road tire is adequately equipped to handle almost all types of off-road conditions. It’s currently one of the best off-road tires on the market.

Design Features and Technologies

As mentioned above, the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro is designed to handle the most extreme off-road terrains and conditions. To achieve these objectives, Cooper has outfitted it with several key features like:

Robust Tread Compound

Cooper has equipped this tire with a sturdy tread compound, featuring chip and tear resistance.

Also, this sturdy tread compound is designed to last for as long as possible. Hence, you are assured of getting maximum value for your money.

Armor-Tek3 Technology

One of the areas where this tire sets itself apart from the competition is the presence of the Amor-Tek3 construction technology.

This technology features a combination of two wide and sturdy steel belts, a single cap ply reinforcement and a three-ply polyester casing. The three-ply polyester casing helps to enhance the tire’s puncture resistance while the steel belts work to support its tread.

The Amor-Tek3 technology also features a third ply, running at approximately eight degrees off the tire. According to the manufacturer, this third ply also helps to enhance the tire’s puncture resistance by approximately 2.5 times.

Aggressive Tread Pattern

The STT Pro’s tread compound has been molded into a high-void, aggressive tread pattern, which is similar to what you will find in most of the other mud-terrain and off-road tires on the market.

The tire’s tread pattern also comes with extra alternating scoops and cleats in the shoulder lugs, designed to deliver enhanced mud traction.

Furthermore, the tire’s tread also comes with mud release dimples, which help to evacuate mud, resulting in superior mud traction and performance.

Also, its tread ribs feature a 3-2 pattern, which helps to minimize road noise, resulting in a comfortable ride.

Anti-Stone Retention Ribs

Cooper has also outfitted this tire with anti-stone retention ribs. As the name suggests, these ribs help to eject small rocks and stones, thus helping to protect the Discoverer STT Pro against punctures.

Wide Circumferential Grooves

The Discoverer STT Pro has also been equipped with wide circumferential and lateral grooves.

These grooves work together to channel water away from the tire, thus enhancing its hydroplaning resistance, resulting in enhanced wet traction.

Performance in Different Conditions and Terrains

The Discoverer STT Pro is an off-road tire, designed to deliver reliable performance in varying terrains and conditions. But does it live up to expectations?

We mounted a set of this tire on a Dodge Ram and assesses its performance in different conditions. And we made the following observations.

Dry Tarmac Performance

On dry tarmac, the Discoverer STT Pro performed better than we had expected. While it may not deliver the handling and braking that you can get from a summer tire, its overall performance was satisfactory.

When driving at average speeds, the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro remained responsive enough. It responded to our driving inputs well.

Also, it delivered excellent traction and grip on dry tarmac. And unlike other all-terrain tires, the Discoverer STT Pro is not heavy. Therefore, its fuel consumption is almost at par with that of an all-season tire.

Wet Performance

Its performance in wet conditions was equally great. If you happen to encounter wet and slippery conditions with this tire, you will not encounter any loss of traction.

Its grip and traction in wet conditions are more than adequate for your daily driving needs. And thanks to the wide circumferential and lateral grooves, you will not experience any aquaplaning issues.

Overall, the Discoverer STT Pro is a capable performer when it comes to wet and slippery conditions. Whether you are driving on the street, on the highway or in off-road conditions, you can rest assured that this tire will get the job done.

Performance in Snowy Conditions

Considering that the Discoverer STT Pro is designed to handle a wide range of off-road terrains, you can expect it to perform well in snowy conditions. Is that the case? Without a doubt, the Discoverer STT Pro is one of the best off-road tires when it comes to snowy conditions.

During our test ride, this tire delivered adequate traction and grip in snowy conditions. The performance was equally great when the conditions became slushy.

However, we noticed that its performance dropped slightly when we encountered packed snow. And this is something you can expect since it’s not a dedicated winter tire.

So, if you live in an area that experiences heavy snowing for several months, then you should consider replacing the Discoverer STT Pro with a dedicated winter or snow tire.

Ride Quality

If you are used to a smooth, quiet and comfortable ride, then it may take you some time to get used to this tire.

As much as the tire may not be excessively loud compared to other off-road tires on the market, it’s quite noisy. And this is something you can expect from an off-road tire.

Warranties and Guarantees

Cooper stands behind the Discoverer STT Pro with two warranties and guarantees. A workmanship and materials warranty as well as a 45-day road test trial. Let’s take a closer look at what’s covered under each warranty and guarantee.

Workmanship and Materials Warranty

The Discoverer STT Pro comes with a 5-year workmanship and materials warranty. Under this warranty, Cooper offers to replace your tire with a comparable new one, if it becomes unusable due to workmanship or materials defects.

If your tire becomes unserviceable during the first 2/32-inch of its original tread, Cooper will replace it with a comparable new one, free of charge.

And if the tire is worn more than 2/32-inch of its original tread, the manufacturer will replace it with a comparable new one on a prorated basis. Hence, you will contribute a certain percentage of its replacement costs.

An authorized Cooper tire dealer will determine the amount you will pay by multiplying the percentage of the original tread worn off the tire with its current selling price.

Also, you will be responsible for its mounting and balancing fees, as well as applicable taxes and miscellaneous charges.

45-Day Road Test

As noted above, the Discoverer STT Pro is also eligible for Cooper’s 45-day road test. As the name suggests, Cooper will give you 45 days after purchasing this tire, to examine its performance.

If you are not satisfied with its performance, then you are free to return it to its original place of purchase, and the dealer will issue a refund or replace it with a comparable tire.

Sizes and Fitment

The Discoverer STT Pro comes in a wide range of sizes, ranging between 15 inches and 22 inches. Some of the vehicles that this tire can fit include:
