The Acura TLX is a great car to drive, and when it's time to replace the rubber, what are the best tires for the Acura TLX?

Standing at the tire fitment center and choosing the correct tire can be very intimidating! Apart from the tire size, there are different grip levels, wear rates, and compounds that I have never heard of! Other tire manufacturers make tires that will work on the Acura TLX but with different compounds to suit the driving conditions. All I really want is a set of tires for my car, but which are the best?

The Best All-Season Tires For The Acura TLX are:

  • The Michelin Crossclimate 2 Grand Touring All-Season Tire
  • The Goodyear Eagle LS-2 Grand Touring All-Season Tire
  • The Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 2 Tire
  • The Bridgestone Driveguard Run-Flat All-Season Tire
  • The Firestone Weathergrip All-Season Tire

Choosing the best tires for your Acura TLX may sound like a mammoth task, but it does not need to be. I have selected the best tires available for the TLX in three categories, All-season, summer performance, and winter. I delve into the design and components that make each tire suitable for the Acura TLX.

Throughout my career, I have owned more than a dozen cars over the past few years, as I do a ton of mileage annually. I have put excellent and appalling tires on my vehicles and learned from my mistakes. I have researched tires to find the best of the best, and these are the results.

The Best All-Season Tires For The Acura TLX

All-Season tires are a combination of tires suitable for most conditions such as rain, light snow, dirt, and tarmac.

1. The Michelin Crossclimate 2 Grand Touring All-Season Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/michelin-crossclimate2"}}

The Michelin Crossclimate 2 tire has been designed explicitly for sedans and SUVs that are daily drives. The tire is ready to handle all types of weather conditions and terrain that it may encounter. The tire has excellent dry and wet performance and has the highest snow rating in the all-season tire category. So for areas that receive less than 10" of snow, this all-season tire is a perfect fit.

The Michelin Crossclimate 2 tire has an all-around thermally adaptive rubber compound that will keep the tire's performance characteristics in a vast array of temperatures. Road noise is kept down to a minimum with the advanced tread pattern.

The acceleration and braking characteristic of the Crossclimate 2 is top tier. The tread will move towards each other to increase the contact patch under high load conditions, thus improving cornering and overall handling of the vehicle.

The deep V tread slices through water by channeling it away from the contact area. The tread is capable of gripping through light snow conditions and maintaining grip on the road surface without any change in drive feel.

While the tire has a three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol as its proof of its snow handling ability, the tire does offer better snow capability than most all-season tires. But this should not be miscued for a full winter tire. Adverse weather conditions will require a full winter tire to be fitted.

2. The Goodyear Eagle LS-2 Grand Touring All-Season Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/goodyear-eagle-ls-2"}}

The Good Year Eagle LS-2 has been on the market for over 10 years and is still as fantastic as when it was launched. This tire is the standard fitment OE Tire for the Acura TLX. The Eagle LS-2 has great handling traits while offering a good comfortable ride.

The tire compound is all season with a symmetric triple tread block pattern to improve rip in dry road conditions. The cornering characteristics are enhanced by having independent tread blocks that assist with grip and offer more responsive steering feel while driving.

The Eagle LS-2 performs excellently on wet roads. This is due to the broader grooves that push the surface water away and reduce the chance of hydroplaning. The tire is capable of driving safely in light snow and ice.

The road noise and hydroplaning resistance are sub-par with newer tire models, but it is a tire worth considering for the price.

3. The Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 2 Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/pirelli-cinturato-p7-all-season-plus-ii"}}

The Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 2 tire has been specially designed for the North American climate. This all-season tire is excellent for compact SUVs and luxury sedans such as the Acura TLX. Pirelli is the main tire sponsor for Formula 1. They are constantly developing their tires with the feedback given from the F1 team.

The Cinturato P7  Plus 2 tire significantly reduces road and surface noise due to the specific tread pattern design. In city driving, the road noise is quiet, and the noise level escalates slightly as the speed is increased.

The new compound Pirelli uses in the P7 Plus 2 definitely improved the comfort levels compared to other Pirelli all-season tires. The drive is smooth on paved terrain, and the feedback from driving over a tarnished piece of pavement is noticeable. This is comforting as it lets the driver know what's happening on the road.

The Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 2 doesn't flinch as the grip levels stay the same in wet conditions. The four circumferential grooves push water aside to increase hydroplaning resistance. The longitudinal and lateral sips constantly look for grip as the tire rotates. This also assists the tire in getting grip in light snow and ice conditions.

The treadwear characteristics of the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus 2 tire have received some mixed reviews from customers. Many have claimed they are not impressed by the rapid wear on the tires. Other drivers have praised the P7 plus 2 with incredible, long-lasting wear. I think this is due to individual driving styles, as Pirelli offers a 70 000 mile unlimited-time treadwear warranty on these tires.

4. The Bridgestone Driveguard Run-Flat All-Season Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/bridgestone-driveguard"}}

The tires of a vehicle are the first and most important feature when it comes to safety. The Bridgestone Driveguard Run-Flat All-Season Tire is designed for just this purpose. It supplies grip in dry, wet, gravel, and light snow with the added benefit of having the Run Flat system.

The Run Flat system will allow the vehicle to travel for 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50 mph in the event of a puncher. This is made possible by Bridgestone's latest NanoPro-Tech Sidewall technology and their silica-enhanced all-season tread compound.

The tread on the Bridgestone Driveguard tire has circumferential and cross-cup grooves to expel water and provide grip in wet and rainy conditions. The asymmetrical tread layout improves handling and cornering characteristics with low road noise.

The Bridgestone Driveguard tire performs well in light snow conditions thanks to its specially engineered slips on the tire surface. These slips easily find grip through the slush and snow, allowing the driver good control of the vehicle.

To fit Bridgestone Driveguard to a vehicle, it must have an active Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Luckily, the Acura TLX has a TPMS as standard, so fitting the tires will be an added safety feature to the car.

5. The Firestone Weathergrip All-Season Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/firestone-tire-weathergrip"}}

The Firestone Weathergrip All-Season Tire may look more like a winter tire than an all-season tire. It has been specifically designed to have excellent traction in snowy conditions while maintaining good all-season characteristics.

Firestone equipped the Weathergrip tire with a directional tread pattern that will sustain the most grip in the direction the tire is moving. This improves breaking in dry conditions, ultimately decreasing stopping distance. The chamfered shoulder blocks have been equipped on the tire to improve cornering grip, similar to the Michelin Crossclimate 2.

The hydroplaning resistance of the Firestone Weathergrip tire is top tier. The Hydro-Grip technology that Firestone implements in their tires really shines through with the Weathergrip. The tread slices through deep puddles and the open grooved on the shoulder disperse the excess water.

The stopping distance is slightly increased in wet conditions as the rubber fights for grip on the wet surface.

As anticipated, the Firestone Weathergrip All-Season tire performs very well in light snow and ice condition. Firestone uses their Snow Traction Claw technology on the center of the tires and shoulders, which literally has the extra sips dig for traction.

The extra cut tread and increased sips on the tire do not help with road noise. The Firestone Weathergrip tire is louder than its fellow All-season competitors, but not by much! The ride comfort on these tires is also harder than its competitors, but it is smooth and comfortable.

Overall the Firestone Weathergrip All-season tire is an excellent choice for anyone residing in areas with high snowfall. The tires come with the 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) embedded in the tire to prove it is suitable for light snowy conditions. However, a winter tire is still recommended for areas with deeper snow.

The Best Performance Summer Tire For The Acura TLX

Performance summer tires are designed to supply maximum traction in warm to hot climatic conditions. A performance summer tire is suitable in wet conditions as long as the temperatures are above 45°F.

1. The Firestone Indy 500 Summer Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/firestone-firehawk-indy-500"}}

For those drivers who enjoy throwing their Acura TLX into the corners and love the feel of acceleration, the Firestone Indy 500 performance tire is just for you. These tires provide outstanding cornering and traction in warm climates.

Inspired by Firestone's rich Indy 500 history, these tires have been designed to improve handling. The tread pattern contains a proprietary Pulse groove to disperse any water the tire drives through and maintain traction on the road surface. The shoulder and outer tread are specially placed to keep the tire stiff throughout the high cornering forces.

Stopping distance is significantly reduced with the use of a new rubber compound that has been inspired by racing. Firestone state that it will have a 20% shorted stopping distance than its competitors. This is great for twisty back-country roads.

The drive quality of the tire is super smooth and quiet, with very little road noise. The tire consists of a high-turn-up 2-ply polyester casing that is reinforced with two steel belts and synthetic reinforcing. All these combined make a durable, high-quality summer tire.

2. The Kumho Ecsta PS31 Performance Summer Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/kumho-ecsta-ps31"}}

The Kumho tire brand has always been known for there performance products, and the Ecsta PS31 is proof. This high-performance tire supplies ample grip in dry and wet summer conditions. It is well suited for any sporty and luxury sedan like the Acura TLX.

Designed with a directional tread with a solid rib in the center for added rigidity during high speed and fast cornering. The wider lateral tread is stiffer, and the sidewall of the tire assists in minimizing tire head build-up that may cause excessive tread wear.

In the wet, the Ecsta PS31 outperforms its competitors. The tire grips the road like glue when driving on rain-soaked streets. The wider tread blocks and channels disperse water with ease and clear the way for the contact patch to do its job. This improves stopping distance in the wet, and hydroplaning is almost non-existent.

The Kumo Ecsta PS31 tire delivers great performance on the road with a smooth drive, lots of grip, and low road noise. Most performance summer tires sacrifice tread wear for grip, but the Ecsta PS31 does not. The high silica compound used will ensure high performance with minimal wear.

The Best Winter Tire For The Acura TLX

Extra traction is needed in snow and icing conditions, and having a set of winter tires on your Acura TLX will make it safer on snowy roads. Winter tires excel in colder climates where ice and snow can play havoc on the driving conditions.

1. The Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 Winter Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/bridgestone-blizzak-ws90"}}

The Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 Winter Tire is among the best winter tires. It offers excellent traction in snow, ice, wet and dry conditions. A new Multi-cell compound is used by Bridgestone to give extra bite in slippery conditions. A hydrophilic coating on the tire expels the thin water layers that develop between the contact surface and the icy road.

The tire has 15% more contact surface and blocks edges to improve grip in the icy conditions. The abundance of cross-laid sips further increases the gripping potential of the tire. The tread is made from a molded high silica compound with stiffer blocks to increase stability and prolong tread life.

In wet conditions, the Blizzak WS90 impressed even more. The tire does not under or oversteer, and the hydroplaning resistance is the best in its class. Braking distance is shortened by almost 5 feet compared to the previous WS80. The wet roads are no match for these winter tires.

In dry conditions, the grip is similar to any all-season tire. The steering is very responsive for an all-winter tire. Still, steering feedback is slightly degraded due to the soft rubber. On a positive note, the tire does not squeal or screech like most winter tires tend to do. Road noise is audible but quickly becomes mundane in the cabin.
