6 Best Tires For Toyota Sienna

The Toyota Sienna was released in 1998 and has been steadily releasing every year with zero interruptions in production. The Toyota Sienna was designed to replace the first generation Previa van in 1997. The Sienna was built with a more conventional front-wheel drive layout than any previous models.

We have produced a list of the 6 best tires for the Toyota Sienna including an in-depth look at the OEM tire. We consider the seasonal elements, tire handling, tire traction, and ride quality in our recommendations here.

Every tire included on our list was personally researched and tested by our field team to provide up-to-date information for prospective buyers.

A Toyota Sienna driver in sunny Miami, Florida will have a much different taste in tires than the person in the four season region of New England. These drivers face different climates therefore the tires they rely on will be much different. We take that into consideration and offer an alternative for every potential driver.

The three primary categories of information we gathered are from field tests, expert interviews, and handcrafted research. This data allows us to provide the best recommendations while answering any question a possible buyer might need answered before they decide on a tire to purchase. Other considerations are a driver’s budget, the tire’s features, and overall tire versatility.

Yokohama AVID Ascend - Best Touring

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/yokohama-avid-ascend"}}

The Yokohama AVID Ascend is the first mass-produced touring tire in the Yokohama product line, and it's a good one. This tire was developed for coupes, sedans, minivans, and crossover vehicles displaying the versatility it can offer a variety of drivers. Buying this tire is a bet on long treadwear life, all season traction, and low rolling resistance.

Yokohama has developed an eco-friendly branding strategy known as Yokohama BluEarth to develop ecologically friendly products for drivers to choose from. The AVID Ascend is built within this product series using Orange Oil technology.

Orange Oil technology is oil extracted from renewable orange peels. Crazy right! This is used to build a more sustainable tire that has better tread life, fuel efficiency and a more natural rubber.

The AVID Ascend has an asymmetric tread design with three ride zones. These zones focus on dry grip, outward water flow, and snow traction. To accomplish these three tasks, the shoulder blocks and tread blocks create tire contact with a surface to improve steering response and cornering.

The center rib gives drivers more tread life by providing a smoother surface ride with consistent road contact. The four circumferential grooves are the key to removing water from the bottom of the tire to dry out the contact areas.

Keep in mind, the AVID Ascend has 3D adaptive sipes too. These sipes are key in providing better tread block rigidity along with biting edges. Both features improve dry traction while maintaining wear. Hold this all together with a pair of twin steel belts for an added layer of strength and stability.

Continental CrossContact UHP - Best Summer

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/continental-crosscontact-uhp"}}

The Continental CrossContact UHP is an ultra high performance tire designed for summer usage on SUVs and minivans. It provides high level four wheel drive support with long tread life and excellent handling.

The CrossContact UHP is built with silica tread compounds for elite wet and dry road grip and performance. This tire also provides incredible roll resistance for a passenger car tire.

The silica tread is designed asymmetrically with outer shoulder blocks for precision steering and cornering. Some may think a UHP tire for a minivan is unnecessary but these tires are designed to withstand the heat and perform for a long time in these elements.

The center rib also provides great stability. Combine this rib with the independent tread blocks for a perfectly balanced ride.

What about wet surface performance? Don’t worry. It comes equipped with four lateral circumferential grooves to remove water efficiently. This means no hydroplaning, no sliding, and the best braking.

Remember, this is a summer tire. Using this tire in cold or freezing temperatures will lead to cracking and a quick breakdown of the treads. It will wear faster, the tire will lose many of the features it was purchased for, and you will be replacing a tire very quickly. Be prepared with a winter tire to replace this before the weather turns.

Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 - Best Winter

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/bridgestone-blizzak-ws80"}}

Bridgestone’s Blizzak WS80 is our top winter pick for reliable winter tire options serving minivans. Drivers can expect improved handling and road grip in harsh conditions. It uses Bridgestone’s most advanced Multi-Cell Compound to guarantee the performance and reliability.

The Multi-Cell Compound is a flexible tread that can adapt to cold weather and maintain flexibility despite colder temperatures. It works to improve handling, braking, and steering response for drivers.

The new Hydrophilic Coating is much stronger than competing winter tires. It provides confident stopping capability at most distances despite snow and ice filled roads. This tire is also equipped with 3D ZigZag Sipes to add more bite particles for more confident road grip and braking. These sipes can increase the block edges by 20% compared to the prior WS70 model. How’s that for an upgrade?

This tire is also built with a new cavity shape that distributes pressure evenly throughout. This keeps the tire stable to attack difficult surfaces with poise and control. Another unique feature is the smaller shoulder blocks than prior models and competitors. This adds more lug channels to expel water and slush.

Winter tires are not UTQG rated and drivers should remember their performance is expected to dip when exposed to high heat weather. They handle well on dry roads but overall, this is a winter tire to battle the elements.

Michelin Pilot MXM4 - Best Performance Street

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/michelin-pilot-mxm4"}}

The Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 is a highly regarded touring tire. This tire is developed with comfort, low noise and strong handling in mind. It was designed as a premium passenger tire to mix elegant looks with high performance. You can expect strong four season traction with adequate traction in light snow.

The Pilot HX MXM4 contains a weather adjusted tread for optimal traction on both dry and wet surfaces. This tread is an asymmetric pattern for a more firm grip and better stability.

Independent tread blocks are built into this tire to pair with the biting edges for added snow performance. The circumferential grooves can push away water, slush, and snow to give a firm and dry surface area grip between the tire and road. This not only improves traction, but reduces the risk of hydroplaning.

The internal build relies on twin steel belts with Michelin BAZ technology to stabilize and support the tread. It creates highway durability and a longer lasting treadwear. The polyester cord attributes to a smoother, more comfortable Toyota Sienna ride.

Falken FK - 090 - Best Temporary Spare

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/falken-fk-090"}}

The Falken FK - 090 Spare Tire is a popular OEM spare for minivans and crossovers. This is a reliable spare option for a Toyota Sienna owner to provide immediate temporary driving access again after a flat.

This spare tire is designed to add extra open trunk space and lower the vehicle weight. It is extremely light and flexible. A traditional full sized spare will weigh you down and occupy most of your trunk storage. This is a more convenient alternative to protect you in an emergency.

Remember that the Falken FK - 090 Spare Tire is meant for temporary use only. We recommend to get your car looked at quickly in the instance you must rely on this spare to drive on. It is a reliable and preferred temporary spare but driving too long on a spare can cause damage and harm to the car.

A spare can cause transmission problems, braking failure, and tire blowouts when they are driven for too long or too fast. Proceed with caution when using a temporary spare.

Specifications

Some specifications may vary based on the exact tire size selected.

  • Warranty: None
  • Max Load Capacity: 2,149 lbs
  • Max Inflation Pressure: 60 PSI
  • Tread Depth: 5/32’’
  • Tire Weight: 19 lbs
  • UTQG Treadwear: N/A
  • UTQG Traction: N/A
  • UTQG Temperature: N/A

FAQ

How many miles can this last?

This spare is good for up to 70 miles. We do not recommend reaching the full 70. But in the rare instance you need to, remember this is the miles limit before risking further damage or another flat.

What is the top speed I can drive?

The top speed to drive with a temporary spare is 50 MPH. Drive cautiously and avoid highway drives when using The Falken FK - 090 Spare Tire to be safe.

Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02 RFT - Factory Tire

{{tire-info-with-links="/tire/bridgestone-turanza-el400-02-rft"}}

The Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02 RFT is the most common factory tire choice when purchasing a new Toyota Sienna. This tire is found on multiple models and is a popular choice among other car brands like the Lexus IS250C.

The Turanza EL400-02 RFT is a run-flat tire meaning you can drive it for a short distance on a flat without needing to change over to a temporary spare. You are able to drive up to 50 miles at speeds near 50 mph on this run flat tire.

Now the features. This tire is an all season tire with an asymmetric rubber compounded tread design for extreme balance and grip on dry and slippery surfaces. It can handle light snow and cold temperatures without sacrificing too much performance.

The interior includes a pair of twin steel belts for high speed durability while maintaining ride balance and comfort. Road noise is traditionally low and unnoticable. The treadwear life is not as reliable as advertised and we saw major wear much earlier than many competitors.

There are straight circumferential grooves to guard against hydroplaning and wet roads. Overall, we do not grade this as a strong tire to handle winter elements. It does advertise as such and the features back it up, but the performance does not.

The internal structure also includes Side Support Run-Flat technology for better support against flats. This is the negative we see to run flat tires. The features are built to support the run flat capability and this sacrifices performance against more important factors such as snow performance, highway performance, comfort, and treadwear lifespan.

There is also no treadwear warranty which is rare for an all season touring tire. Drivers face no protection when purchasing or using this tire.

Specifications

Some specifications may vary based on the exact tire size selected.

  • Warranty: None
  • Max Load Capacity: 1,764 lbs
  • Max Inflation Pressure: 51 PSI
  • Tread Depth: 10/32’’
  • Tire Weight: 33 lbs
  • UTQG Treadwear: 300
  • UTQG Traction: A
  • UTQG Temperature: A
  • No warranty
  • Poor tread wear life and winter handling

FAQ

What sizes does this tire come in?

As mentioned, this is a popular tire used by many different retailers. The sizes available range between 15” and 19” with a variety of options to choose from to fit many vehicles.

What is the warranty on this tire?

There is no treadwear warranty on this tire. There is no special warranty on this tire either. Bridgestone does not offer their driver's much protection with this tire.

How does this tire handle the snow?

This tire claims to be a strong all season tire with a great ability to handle snow. We feel much differently. While yes, it is designed to drive in snow. The performance is poor, the tire spins out quite a bit and it is very susceptible to sliding. The short distance braking was also not up to the par we were looking for.

How noisy is this tire?

Overall, it is not a loud tire but there are better options available when searching for the most quiet option. The steering responsiveness is a bit slow and you can hear the tire loudly when making quick turns or hitting bumps on the road.

Understanding Toyota Sienna Tire Specifications

Before buying, take a look at the tire. Can you read that string of characters on the sidewall? If not, you need to learn. You will notice important things such as size, specifications and other characters on the tire sidewall.

 This is a quick breakdown of what everything written on the tire means so you can make the correct purchase.

These letters and numbers tell you everything you need to know about your tire. They represent a lot of information.

The tire reads from left to right and includes the following information:

Toyota Sienna’s can use both tire types, but the preferred option is a P rated tire.

Wheel Diameter - This is a two digit number to measure the wheel from end to end in inches.

Load Index - A two or three digit number. This indicates the amount of weight the tire can support. An exact breakdown can be found here.
